Smoky Panky
A twist on the classic cocktail created by Ada Coleman in the early 1900s, the Hanky Panky. The idea is to create a simple drink using accessible ingredients such as gin, Fernet Branca and red vermouth, adding a layer of complexity and highlighting the interesting uses of tea in cocktails. In this case, by using Lapsang Souchong, a smoked black tea.
Add <quantity>4<unit>g</unit></quantity> of Lapsang Souchong tea to a glass jar with lid
Add <quantity>200<unit>g</unit></quantity> of gin
Cover the jar and stir
Let it infuse until it reaches a dark color
Transfer to a storing container, adding a small amount to a spray bottle. The Lapsang Souchong gin is ready
Add <quantity>10<unit>ml</unit></quantity> of fernet
Add <quantity>50<unit>ml</unit></quantity> of the Lapsang Souchong Gin and <quantity>50<unit>ml</unit></quantity> of red vermouth to a mixing glass
Fill it with ice cubes and stir for 5-10s until thoroughly chilled
Prepare a glass with <quantity>1</quantity> clear ice and strain the cocktail over it
Garnish with an orange peel twist and spray a little bit of the Lapsang Souchong Gin. The smokey panky is ready
Cheers!
