Bread Sauce
Bread sauce is a traditional accompaniment in the UK, typically served with roast turkey, meat and game. In this recipe, we use whole wheat bread, which detracts from the traditional white color, but adds a strong depth of nutty flavor.
Dice <quantity>100<unit>g</unit></quantity> of whole wheat bread
Add to a pot with <quantity>200<unit>ml</unit></quantity> of milk. Turn the heat to low
Add nutmeg to taste
Cook the bread until very soft. If the mixture dries up, add a little more milk until it reaches a lumpy, porridge-like consistency
Transfer to a blender
Blend on high speed until smooth
Season with salt to taste. You can reduce the sauce over low heat or add a little more milk to reach the desired consistency, if necessary. The bread sauce is ready
