Learn how to open and clean a scallop, a wonderful skill to enjoy this beautiful bivalve.
Hold 1 scallop shell with the flat side up and the hinge away from you
Insert a metal spatula or knife near the hinge and gently twist it. Run the spatula as closely along the upper shell as possible to release the scallop
Run a spoon along the curved shell to release the scallop and remove it by hand
Gently remove the gill, digestive gland, roe, and mantle by hand
Wipe off any residual dirt. The scallop is ready to use.
